The day was hot, and so was our desire to win. Unfortunately due to a few sicknesses amongst the Dortmund team, we had to play 9 vs 9. However the energy and atmosphere remained 10/10, thanks to the fans.
Dortmund took an early lead, with 2 goals in the first 6 minutes. But Lasa won draw after draw, which meant that Patricia could come in with a great goal! Mainz Musketeers had woken up!
Another goal on both sides, and then Maria and Freida worked together behind the goal, and earned a beautiful goal. This broke the dam for Maria, because she then scored her first goal of the season! (We are clearly also fans of hockey, on this team…) Then halftime arrived, and the score was 7:4 to Mainz.
After oranges and ice, and a typically logical but optimistic team-talk from Coach Gerrit, we were back on the field and ready to go. Captain Alisha quickly took the score to 8:4, but Dortmund remained strong. Our defenders stayed cool though, and Dortmund were not able to score in the 3rd quarter. The carousel of midis kept the intensity high, and Patricia was able to score another goal before the final quarter.
However the game was far from over… Dortmund came back hard with 4 goals in the last quarter! But Frieda was on fire; the game went back and forth between Dortmund scoring and Freida scoring for 7 goals in total! An exciting end, for a fantastic game.
